Welcome to Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo. The park is the oldest national park in Africa which is a home to mountain gorillas in Africa. This park is part of the chain of the Virunga mountains that are shared by 3 countries. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, you find the Virunga National Park, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Who We Are
Our mission defines us: we protect and value the great diversity of habitats and the exceptional biodiversity sheltered by the oldest national park of the African continent. The Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN) is the Authority that manages the Natural Parks and Protected Areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Virunga National Park
The Virunga National Park is the first Natural Park to be established on the entire African continent, in 1925. It has an incomparable diversity of habitats and an exceptional biodiversity that have allowed it to receive the recognition of World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The Park staff consists of ICCN officials and national and international experts in technical support to state structures provided by the African Conservation Fund (ACF), an English-law organization founded in 2005 with the aim of supporting the protection efforts of the Virunga Park.
The Park receives vital funding for the implementation of its activities from several partners, of which the European Union is the main institutional donor.

The Virunga National Park (PNVi) has an incomparable diversity of habitats and exceptional biodiversity that has allowed it to be recognized as a World Heritage Site. In recent years the park is being rehabilitated with the support of the European Union.
